From evidence based to results oriented medicine

Many of our patients have tens of visits to other professionals. Don't lose faith, we have been able to help most "unhealable" patients.

Modern medicine has advanced to unprecedented success in many diseases. Unfortunately, chronic complex issues are not among them. Conventional medicine is focused on the treatment of symptoms, not the underlying causes of disease. The medical division into specialties does not help, since the issues that need to be addressed fall under many specialties. Our patients come to us for help having often suffered for years, having seen many professionals and with doubts if they could be helped at all.

Our approach is based on results. We measure the current state as a starting point and we want to see real progress on symptoms and issues affecting quality of life. That philosophy has honed our treatment approach, as we only keep what works - constantly researching. In complex cases it is not simple. Consider the human body as a complex and intricate interconnected system, that often needs to be corrected on a number of issues to make a breakthrough.

Our Medical Director Marjo Valonen, MD has built and refined with our clinicians an ever-evolving model for the road to recovery. The model works like peeling an onion: we address the causes layer by layer until recovery. It has also helped us to become very effective in solving each problem.

Lets talk about real people to illustrate what we can do. Here is an example of a complex case:

Case example: a paralyzed athlete

This is one of our older complex cases so there is a longer timeline.

We'd like to introduce you to a former professional athlete in her late 40's. She was still putting in about 600 hours per year of active training and exercise per year, mainly cross country skiing, gym and golf. She was coming back from a golfing trip when her left side paralyzed. She spent 15 months guessing diagnoses with multiple doctors: partial paralysis, migraine, stroke, depression, CFS, joint pain, RA, maybe MS, mold exposure, maybe psychiatric problem. A couple of thrombolytic therapy rounds were administered due to left side numbness and paralysis. Ended up in a wheelchair.

She was diagnosed with neuroborreliosis 15 months after the paralysis. 9 months of doxycyclin antibiotic helped a little, but she was still using a rollator.

This is our starting point.

The core of our programs is taking care of the infections. In her case food intolerances were also major factor, followed by repairing her gut which was in a bad shape after the long course of antibiotics:

"I had slept 12-16 hours per day for 23 months - suffering from brainfog and memory lapses when awake. In two weeks after the treatments were running and the foods with the highest reactions (pineapple, banana) were removed the hours of sleep was reduced by 2 hours, my mind started to clear and my memory started working."

It often requires addressing multiple issues before the big changes happen. This patient was used to following a regimen (like training for a competition) which made it easier to monitor her progress. Following our treatment model the progress was steady.

+6 months, can ski short distances (her "short" would be quite long for others)

A neuroborreliosis case where the disease is identified at a late stage. This situation is usually recoverable but requires more work and time. We have included her journey as a reference of what to expect. There are cases where people just bounce back and others who will require more time and effort.

+10 months, able to play golf, used cart for half the range

Funny true story: our admin was coming to the clinic and had not seen her for a while. Pleased about her progress as she was able to walk without rollator, he held the door to the elevator for the 5 story ride up. She just said "thanks but I'm good" and set on the stairs arriving just a bit after the elevator to the top floor.

Our Medical Director said that this is what every MD should be able to experience: curing/healing people, instead of just symptom mitigation.

+22 months, gone are the rollator days

We never forget her call about a serious issue:
"I have a major problem. I have now danced for three hours and I have no shoes with heels. I threw all of them away since I knew I'd never use them again. Do you know how much it costs to start a shoe collection from scratch?"

+34 months, better than before

Situation now

"I feel better than in decades. I have cross country skied 1000km (600 miles) this winter. I just want to express my gratitude of her [our MD's] work!!!"

She gave us confidence about the road we had chosen and we are grateful for having been part of her recovery - cases like hers laid the foundation for what we are today: with years of experience about helping the unhealable.
